MOH…383 days…

I’m kind of freaking out… I’m that friend… the friend you wish you didn’t have sometimes but love when other circumstances comes along… Let me explain…You can call me to bail you out of jail, if I have the $$ I’m there…but if you need a babysitter…oufff…go to the next person in the phone book! Sorry, I don’t do kids unless they’re related to me my blood… awful, you say?!? Yup, I know but it’s just the way that I feel and I can’t help it. I’m not into kids, christening, communions, bachelorettes, baby showers etc… I HATE ALL OF THOSE WITH A PASSION.. I cannot stand them! But now I’ve found myself in a bizarre position…

I’ve been asked to be a maid of honor to my friend’s wedding. You need to understand, this is a difficult position to be in..WHY, you might say? Maybe because the year before, I refused to be a bridesmaids in one of my old friend (Known her for 20 years) wedding party.. I still feel guilty, because I love that friend… I think she’s one of the most amazing people I’ve ever met (and will ever meet) in my life. She has a good heart, she’s reliable, she has great values..she’s that girl…the one you can count on. She’s always been that way… But I also know that our lives have changed and it isn’t the way it was 10-15 or 20 years ago… To me, being over 30 in a wedding party – not happening for me – I don’t want to be that girl…forever bridesmaids never the bride, I’m so not interested.  There comes a time when you have to let go and I have… I’m truly beyond that.. I declined to be a bridesmaid to my friend’s wedding because I felt our friendship was not as close as it once was and I would not be sincere walking down that isle on her special day…. I have tremendous love for her but I know our relationship is (and will never be the same).. other people, that have been there for her should be walking her down that isle and supporting her through that event..but I love her! She has a special place in my heart. And then, comes that person you never thought you’d meet.

A funny, eclectic, sarcastic girl that you just so happen to mesh with. From the get go, we’re super different: she’s slim and hates fat people – I’m kinda of chubby and not a fan of those model like gals (which she is); she’s vegetarian and I’m a carnivore, she’s very fashion-forward – she insulted the mom’s jeans I was wearing during the game night I was hosting (what a douche – yet, she was my backbone when it came to keep my cool and keep food coming out). Regardless of all this, we still manage to always have a GREAT time whenever we saw each other; we went away for a week in TNT and never had an issue and ’til today, we may not agree on certain things we’re still super cool with each other..and most importantly….we always laugh…and laugh! And as superficial as she may appear she still cares about people and I love that about her!! I love her heart!! The heart that loves grandma and grandpa and tells you all about their stories….. grandma holding that man by the collar at the flea market, or her having two yearly birthday parties – yearly ( double birthday party!! Who the fuck has that!?! lol): my friend CJ does!!

Needless to say I’m excited, overwhelmed, terrified while being so happy for her! It truly is a privilege to witness the meeting of two souls, that were meant to found each other. Since I have not met MY soul mate yet, her story reinforces my belief that there’s a special someone out there for me too…awwwww…so corny (I know, embarrassing :S). I’ve made a promise to myself to enjoy every single step of this journey and I cannot wait to share the big day with you, my 2 faithful readers! Besides, I already know the wedding pictures are going to be SICK – the outfits, the theme everything will be HOT, at that celebration of Afrocentric love 🙂 This adventure is going to be exceptionally phenomenal… to be continued

Paris, Tokyo…

I went away last weekend to a cottage in the Eastern townships, Roxton Pond to be precise, and I had to opportunity to do some serious chill-axing…LOL… Saturday was gloriously sunny, while Sunday was the perfect rainy-jazzy day. Incredible! Great food, good company, stimulating conversations, an inviting pool, a BBQ ready to be use AND abuse, PLUS a freaking hammock in the backyard!?! What else could a girl asked for?? Maybe a sympathetic dog (called Maggie), two cats (Sookie and Yoko a.k.a Hitler/ Charlie Chaplin since she’s all white and has a tiny black mustache under her nose) and a banned on killing any insects besides mosquitoes. Listen, I almost killed an ant and was scolded for a good half-hour for that mischief…. Geez…Do not worry, the ant survived – I only broke her two back-legs 😛

I  also discovered this amazing Lupe Fiasco song during those 50 blissful hours: Paris, Tokyo  which is the perfect musical backdrop for a week-end get away (like I had); or a week long vacations to an exotic overseas location or just the track you play when you’ve buried yourself under your comforter in your well-used PJs,  turned off your Blackberry, laptop, emails etc… and just want to disconnect for a few hours…Enjoy!

P.S.: Happy birthday to one of my favorite W in the whole wide world 🙂

P.P.S.: Have you ever-tried Kettle’s Ranch flavored potato chips!?! Thank you C for this life-changing discovery. “Hi, my name is Tathiana and I’m so addicted to those chips” 🙂

SWAG = Jay-Z

To me, Jay-Z is the definition of SWAG. No matter how old he is he will always be the personification of what it means to be cool: comfortable in your skin, make your own way by any mean necessary, confident, arrogant, charming…everything a man (or woman) aspires to be.

Here is his latest video, featuring Kanye called “Otis”. As hot and current as Kanye may be, in this video he just appears to be a measly Kelly Rowland overpowered by Beyoncé (Jay-Z)’s grandeur.

Minuit à Paris…

It’s impossible for me to be objective when it comes to Woody Allen. This time though, I think it goes beyond my neurotic obsession with everything this man has ever touched. The star of the movie, to me, is the city itself. Every scene was like a timeless postcard: beautiful and inviting. The cast was brilliant. I have to admit that it took me a minute to warm up to Owen Wilson’s anti-social script writer character but ultimately his performance was refreshing and convincing. Marion Cottilard as the stunning Adriana and Adrien Brody as an hilarious Salvatore Dali did a phenomenal job with their respective role. Ultimately, the hour and 40 minutes that I spent at the movie theater flew by and were magical. Whimsical, romantic, nostalgic, eloquent, intelligent – not Woody Allen at is prime but still great. One of my closest friend is Parisian and she’d offered any times to take me around the city of lights and show me “le vrai Paris”. I was always hesitant but after seeing this enchanting piece, I’ve already called her to set a date for my private tour. This movie was a great reminder that it’s important to cherish the past but never forget to live in the moment.. I shall not forget.

Bad teachers.. (my review)

I went to see Bad Teachers tonight, at the Cavendish mall. If ever you want to see a blockbuster at an un-crowded theater, Cavendish mall is the place to be. My cousin and I, LOVED it! No line to buy the water; prime real estate when it come to seats – blissful!

That being said, I got to admit, I was a little bit disappointed. I thought I was going to be dying of laughter the entire time, but truly, this movie only got a few chuckles out of me. Generally speaking, I like Cameron Diaz in comedies; I’m slowly becoming a Justin Timberlake fan – I thought he did a great job in The social network – and I love Jason Segel (I’m a Judd Appatow, Freaks and geeks & affiliates groupie; don’t judge me). Somehow this mixture of great ingredients didn’t seem to mesh very well in this picture.

However, I have to give credit where it’s due and Cameron Diaz’s comedic timing is on point; Justin was good and his performance in the “sex-scene” was priceless. My “coup de coeur” though was Lynn Davies, the awkward 50-something socially crippled colleague. Her scenes, were the ones that truly got me laughing the loudest! Her awkwardness had something endearing to it, that made her very likeable…at least to me 😉

I’d still recommend for people to go see it…on a Tuesday, when you have absolutely nothing to do. It’s a great way to kill 1.5 hour.

This summer has a lot of good movies coming out, this was a lukewarm opener for me but I’m expecting a lot more in the weeks to come.

Feel like a beer? Trust me, you’ll want one after you see this!

I saw this commercial while watching the Wimbledon semi-finals. At first, I was convinced it was some tourism commercial for Japan…only to realized that it was a BEER commercial!?! Really….all this for BEER…o_O…Simply amazing! Besides, even though I’m not a beer drinker believe me when I tell you if I see a caisse of Sapporo, I’m buying it! Just like that! What!?! I know I’m such a consumer…don’t judge me..
